President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to buy and own the Gaza Strip proposing to relocate its two million Palestinian residents. Despite the widespread global backlash Trump emphasized his commitment to the plan suggesting that Middle Eastern countries might contribute to rebuilding parts of the region. He also vowed to ensure the Palestinians would live beautifully and peacefully without the threat of violence.

The Palestinian Authority and Hamas rejected the idea stating that Palestinian land was not for sale. They condemned Trump’s proposal highlighting concerns over displacement and the violation of international law. Meanwhile Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supported the proposal calling it a creative and revolutionary vision for the future of the region.

The conflict sparked by Hamas unprecedented attack on Israel in October 2023, has caused significant destruction in Gaza with more than 48,000 deaths. The territory faces severe shortages of food water and medical supplies, with large portions of its infrastructure destroyed.

International figures including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have criticized Trump’s plan calling it a violation of human rights and international law. Critics fear that it could lead to the forcible relocation of Palestinians echoing past historical tragedies.

Trump has also suggested that neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan might assist with relocation efforts although they have previously rejected such proposals.
