Donald Trump has called on Arab nations to increase the number of refugees they are accepting from Gaza and described the situation as a huge mess. In a conversation with reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday the U.S. President stated that he wanted Egypt Jordan and other Arab countries to accept more refugees from the Gaza Strip with the aim of cleaning out the area and potentially rebuilding it from scratch.

He mentioned I would like Egypt to take more people. We’re talking about possibly one and a half million people and just clean out the entire Gaza Strip and say It’s over. He also praised Jordan for successfully accepting Palestinian refugees and told King Abdullah II I would love for you to take more because I’m looking at the whole Gaza Strip right now and it’s a huge mess.

This statement marks a significant part of Trump’s first week in office urging Arab nations support in addressing the Gaza crisis.
