UK Prime Minister Keir is set to unveil a new plan to boost the country’s economy through artificial intelligence (AI). His initiative aims to position the UK as a global leader in the AI sector. has described this plan as a decade of nation-building promising significant technological changes for the country.

The plan named the AI Opportunities Action Plan is designed to enhance the UK’s technological prowess and is expected to play a crucial role in the country’s future development. According to the schedule Keir will officially launch the plan today delivering a speech outlining the initiative.

The UK Prime Minister’s Office alongside the Department for Science Innovation and Technology issued a joint statement highlighting the creation of AI growth zones across the country. These zones will focus on improving the quality of life for citizens. The first of these AI growth zones will be established in where expedited planning approvals for data centers and improved access to the energy grid will be implemented.

Last year a commission led by capitalist Matt Clifford recommended 50 proposals all of which Keir has agreed to implement in the current plan. The plan outlines a vision to increase state-owned AI computing capabilities by 20 times. Additionally it proposes the creation of a national data library and a dedicated AI energy council.

It is expected that advancements in this sector could increase the UK’s productive capacity by 1.5% each year.

Globally the UK ranks third in AI expertise following China in the top position and the United States in second. According to Stanford University’s 2023 Global AI Vibrancy Ranking this data confirms the UK’s standing in the sector.
