Asus, Samsung, and MSI announce world’s first 27-inch 4K OLED 240Hz monitors
Asus, Samsung, and MSI have introduced the world’s first 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitors with a 240Hz refresh rate. These new monitors feature QD-OLED technology and promise the benefits of superior image quality with enhanced performance, all at a compact 27-inch size rather than the more typical 32-inch models.
All three monitors appear to utilize the same fourth-generation QD-OLED panel from Samsung Display. This new panel promises a longer lifespan compared to previous-generation OLED displays. The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM and MSI MPG 272URX QD-OLED models are both equipped with DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR20), allowing for 80Gbps bandwidth to handle 4K resolution at 240Hz without the need for Display Stream Compression (DSC). While Samsung's Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF) press release does not confirm DisplayPort 2.1a compatibility, it is highly likely that it supports the same standard.
The monitors from MSI and Asus support Display True Black 400, with Asus also adding Dolby Vision HDR support for an enhanced viewing experience. Both MSI and Asus are providing a three-year warranty that includes burn-in protection, though Samsung has not disclosed specific details about the warranty for its Odyssey OLED G8.
While Samsung’s model features a 26.5-inch viewable display, both MSI and Asus are marketing their monitors as 27-inch models. These OLED monitors boast ultra-fast 0.03ms response times, 240Hz refresh rates, and over 160PPI, ensuring exceptional text clarity and smooth gameplay. However, the ultimate decision between these monitors will likely depend on design, additional features, and pricing. Unfortunately, none of the companies have yet revealed the exact release dates or pricing information.
